    Chapter 1

Glimmerbrook, finally. Next was Anne, and the library was as good a place as any to potentially find her, although so far it was mostly empty. Then again it was early. From the way things had seemed during the walk most people were still asleep. Anne might even be one of them. More of a night owl. New magic. There was no doubt about it. Max studied him, feeling the power coming off him in a way it only ever had Titus, but then he wanted people to know he was capable of anything. With the new arrival it was likely more because he had no idea how to hide…

    Chapter 31

Chapter 30 “You’re welcome here, Dante.” “Thank you.” Dante looked around the small room, trying to wrap his mind around what he was seeing, because he knew about magic – he just had no idea what other people used it for. Not even Anne. “Being here…” “I know.” Celeste smiled. “Everything takes time.” Time they technically didn’t have. Every hour brought the ritual closer, and being there felt like a waste, yet Dante could see why he needed to know more. If he was truly going to help Anne it was the right choice to make. Combined they might be able to stop Titus, saving Glimmerbrook from tyranny. Celeste’s collection…

    Chapter 29

Chapter 28 “Anne made a good point. I need to understand the reasons for the choice you made, Dante.” “She was the reason for the journey I made to Glimmerbrook. The dreams of her… they gave me a reason to keep going, Celeste, after what happened with my parents.” “I don’t know much of the story.” “Maybe it’s better that way. What really matters is getting Anne away from Titus.” “To you that’s what matters, but it’s not going to be as simple as you seem to think, due to the soulbond. Although I wouldn’t say I know Titus I am certain this was part of a plan, potentially from…

    Chapter 27

Chapter 26 Standing in Dante’s hallway, Anne wrapped her arms around herself, focusing on what they needed to talk about. “I didn’t think I was going to see you today, after what happened, but I’m glad you’re here. You’re right. There shouldn’t have been any expectations, and I’m sorry for how I acted.” From the way Anne was choosing not to look at him Dante didn’t think she’d accept the apology. “Honestly, I understand.” She breathed in deeply. “We’re here to talk about souls, mates, and bonds. This is Celeste Ember.” Dante glanced at Celeste. She was attractive, her eyes different to Anne’s. “Pleasure to meet you.” “Celly, this is…

    Chapter 24

Chapter 23 Dante sat on the bench, his eyes on hers, and Anne tried to find the right words, although she wasn’t certain they existed. It wasn’t as though the two of them did have any kind of relationship. He might see things differently, the dreams affecting his decisions, but he could walk away. “Anne…” She breathed in deeply. “I’m sorry, but this… when I last saw you this wasn’t a conversation I could have imagined having. To be honest with you I thought I might even be bringing up the possibility of removing Titus as a problem entirely, which now doesn’t seem viable.” “You want to kill your brother?”…

    Chapter 20

Chapter 19 Make it up. Dante studied himself. In order to learn what happened he needed to See specific points in time, something he would have been able to do had he grown up in Glimmerbrook, but he hadn’t. Instead they lived in Brindleton Bay, somewhere with no magic at all. He’d never even know it existed. Then it changed his life for good. His father probably wouldn’t have even believed it was possible to have magic. If they’d learnt about Dante’s power… at least he’d have had his mother. She’d have accepted him for who she was, but his father… maybe he’d have opened his mind for his son.…

    Chapter 18

Chapter 17 “Dante, we need to talk.” Cornelius’ voice was the last thing Dante wanted to hear, but it wasn’t a surprise. After how they left things it was an inevitability, because Titus would want Cornelius to fix things, knowing they couldn’t deal with Dante the easy way. “I don’t want to talk to you.” “Please. Five minutes.” “Do you really want to have this conversation in public? Isn’t that going to cause more problems?” “With how close the ritual is I doubt it.” Even if someone did find out it was unlikely they’d go against Titus. He probably wouldn’t be happy, but it was the only option. “Nothing you…

    Chapter 17

Chapter 16 Anne didn’t often visit the graveyard. She knelt in front of Reuben’s grave, thinking of the man who’d become her father, and tried to find a way for her to have normality. Even if he didn’t entirely believe Leonora there were signs he knew Titus was different, arguing often about the future. Sometimes it happened, and when it did they were simply another problem for Titus to deal with. Unlike her he didn’t connect with their new families. Reuben meant nothing to him, so it was easy for him to do what he believed needed to be done, choosing the same path once more. He never changed. Had…

    Chapter 13

Chapter 12 “I shouldn’t have come, but…” Anne breathed in deeply. “You know Titus found out.” “Did you tell him?” “What I said didn’t matter. He doesn’t want to believe any of this is possible, because I’m his sister, and that’s more important than anything else. For me…” “You had doubts even before I stepped into your life.” “Immortality is still the most important gift Titus could ever give me.” “To him.” “Yes, and I’ve had lifetimes where staying with him wasn’t exactly a choice, but there’s never been anyone like you.” “Like me?” “I’ll admit you aren’t the first man I’ve ever fallen in love with.” “You’ve had too…

    Chapter 11

Chapter 10 Dante’s house was close, and Anne stood on the path leading up to it, looking at the door. If she knocked she’d be making a choice, one Titus definitely wouldn’t agree with, and potentially leading to her brother either killing or cursing Dante. Or both. It depended on his mood. If she didn’t knock it wasn’t going to change the fact there was something between her and Dante. Other lives she’d have walked away, but as Anne stood there she knew she wasn’t the same person. At home the weight of the darkness dragged her down, and away from it… There was no changing the choices she’d made…
